Hadith · Forty Ḥadīth of an-Nawawī 16
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): A man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), “Counsel me,” so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not become angry.” The man repeated [his request for counsel] several times, and [each time] he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not become angry.” [Al-Bukhari]
Forty Ḥadīth of an-Nawawī 16
A man sought advice and the Prophet ﷺ answered, again and again, 'Do not become angry.'
Sahih al-Bukhari
Recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari, whose reports scholars accept as authentic. Hadith scholars grade how reliably the words reach us from the Prophet ﷺ. This is a separate question from the ruling drawn from it.
In a narration in Ahmad the man says: "I reflected on what the Prophet ﷺ said, and found that anger gathers all evil."
These gradings summarise classical hadith scholarship and the positions of the four schools. They are pending review by a qualified scholar; for your own situation, ask one.
