Step 7 of 10
The Hereafter and Accountability
This life is not the end. Every soul will die, and every person will be raised to meet Allah and be repaid in full for what they did: ﴿كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ﴾ (“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be paid your full reward on the Day of Resurrection”) (3:185).
Nothing is lost or overlooked: ﴿فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُۥ﴾ (“So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it”) ﴿وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُۥ﴾ (“and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it”) (99:7-8). Each person answers for their own deeds, and no one carries another's sins: ﴿أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ﴾ (“that no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another”) (53:38).
Allah's judgement is perfectly just: He does not wrong anyone even by an atom's weight, and He multiplies good deeds (4:40). Whoever is kept from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has truly succeeded (3:185). Believing in this gives a Muslim a reason to do good even when no one is watching, and the reassurance that no wrong in this world goes unanswered.
