Zaynab bint Khuzaymah رضي الله عنها
Mother of the Poor
Zaynab bint Khuzaymah was of Banu Hilal ibn 'Amir. We know little of her life, but the one thing every biographer records is the name people gave her: Umm al-Masakin, the Mother of the Poor, because she fed and cared for the needy. Some reports say she was called this even before Islam.
She was married before the Prophet ﷺ, and her husband was killed in the early battles. The reports disagree on who he was: some name 'Ubaydah ibn al-Harith, martyred at Badr, and others 'Abdullah ibn Jahsh, martyred at Uhud.
A whole life can be summed up in one name; hers was earned by feeding the hungry.
If people gave you a name for the good you do most often, what would it be?
