Zaynab bint 'Ali رضي الله عنها
The Wife of 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far
Zaynab married her cousin 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far, the son of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, who had been born among the emigrants in Abyssinia. 'Abdullah grew up to be one of the most generous men of his generation, famous for giving away what he had.
Ibn Sa'd lists their children as 'Ali, 'Awn, 'Abbas, Muhammad and Umm Kulthum. Zaynab remained close to her brothers throughout her life.
When al-Husayn set out for Iraq in 60 AH, Zaynab went with him, and the historians report that 'Abdullah, who stayed behind, sent his sons 'Awn and Muhammad with him. Al-Tabari and others name both among those who were killed at Karbala.
Zaynab and 'Abdullah gave to al-Husayn what was dearest to them; their household's love for the Prophet's ﷺ family was not only in words.
