'Abdullah ibn 'Uthman رضي الله عنه
A Small Grave in Madinah
'Abdullah lost his mother Ruqayyah in 2 AH, while the Muslims were at Badr. He lived on with his father in Madinah, and the biographers report that he died in 4 AH, at about six years old, after a rooster pecked him near the eye and his face swelled.
They report that the Prophet ﷺ prayed the funeral prayer over his grandson, and that 'Uthman went down into the grave to lay his son to rest. In two years, 'Uthman had buried the Prophet's ﷺ daughter and then their child.
The Prophet ﷺ and 'Uthman buried a child together; the most beloved of Allah's servants were not spared the grief of losing little ones.
How can you stand beside someone who has lost a child, even when there are no words?
